Crocombe called up

From the Rage Online newsdesk Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Oxford United goalkeeper Max Crocombe has been included in the New Zealand Under 20 World Cup Qualifying squad. Despite having not made his senior debut for the Us, the 19-year-old has been named amongst the 26-man shortlist for the Oceania Football Confederation tournament.

The youngster, who signed a professional contract last year, has made numerous appearances on the bench for United this season.

The list will be cut down to a final squad of 20 players to face Fiji in March. If the nation wins their qualification match, they will go through to the FIFA Under 20 World Cup which begins in Turkey this summer.

Crocombe was ecstatic to make the extended squad for his home country: “I am really pleased and proud to get the call up.

“There is a lot of work still to do before the final 20 is announced but it is exciting news and something I am really looking forward to.”

Lastly, Oxford United’s home fixture against Rotherham United has been rearranged for a 7.45pm kick-off on Tuesday 5th March. The original date against the Millers was last Saturday, but was unfortunately postponed due to snow around the Kassam Stadium.
