York City tonight played their match in hand on United, and beat Rushden & Diamonds 3-1 at the KitKat Crescent. Rushden took a very early lead, but Hibs-bound Clayton Donaldson equalised just before half time. Donaldson again and Steve Bowey scored to ensure the three points for the Minstermen and move them up to fourth, two points behind Oxford, and five above sixth-placed Gravesend & Northfleet. The result also ensures that Rushden can now be written out of the play-off picture, as they are now 18 points behind fifth-placed Exeter City and have just five games left.
Earlier today United's reserves were beaten 5-0 at Northampton. Chris Tardif in goal was the only Oxford player over 20, and only he, Billy Beechers, and Andy Gunn had any first-team experience. Oxford were 4-0 down after just half an hour, and the Cobblers scored their fifth goal three minutes into the second half. United didn't even have their first attempt until the 32nd minute. Oxford had slightly more of the play after conceding the fifth, but never really looked like getting a goal and in the end were happy that Northampton failed to add to their tally. This was Darren Patterson's first game in charge of the second string, but as the side was largely comprised of his under-18s he wouldn't have learned anything new.
Er, that's it.
