Conf fusion

From the Rage Online newsdesk Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Yesterday’s results from the Nationwide Conference fixtures proved good news for Oxford United, as both their nearest challengers lost, to leave the Us six points clear at the top. Second-placed Dagenham & Redbridge went to Halifax Town, and were beaten 3-1 to leave Chris Wilder’s team 18th in the table. Aldershot are now in third place after they beat 6th-placed Grays Athletic 2-1 in Essex, while Weymouth have slipped to fourth after losing 1-0 at Stevenage Borough, who are fourth from bottom. York City are fifth after they won 2-1 at 10th-placed Woking.

Crawley Town are now bottom of the Conference again, following their 1-0 defeat at home to Oxford on Monday night coupled with Forest Green Rovers’ 2-2 home draw with Altrincham, who are now 17th. Third-bottom Cambridge United lost 2-1 at Burton Albion, who are now 11th, while Kidderminster are now 5th from bottom after they beat 19th-placed Southport 2-0 at Aggborough.

United’s next opponents, Stafford Rangers, whom they visit on Saturday, were hammered 4-0 at Northwich Victoria. This leaves Stafford in 13th place, with Northwich just one place beneath them. Gravesend & Northfleet are 7th after they drew 0-0 at 9th-placed Rushden, while Exeter City beat St Albans 4-2 to leave the Grecians in 8th place, and the Saints in 16th position. Morecambe were held to a goalless draw at home by Tamworth.
