Comings, maybe comings, and not comings (but no goings, yet)

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, June 11th, 2004

There were more doings and dealings today for United, although nothing seems to have been confirmed. Bradford City midfielder Robert Wolleaston is due to complete his signing tomorrow morning, as he is one of three players that the cash-strapped Yorkshire club, currently in administration, has been forced to release. It is possible that United are even paying a fee for him, although that too has not been confirmed. Wolleaston will be remembered by United fans (at least those who were there) for scoring a screamer against the Us at the KasStad for Chelsea in a pre-season friendly, two seasons ago. Wolleaston’s arrival has led to further speculation that Dean Whitehead is about to join Sunderland, or Reading, or Nottingham Forest, or Sheffield United, or Watford, or Wycombe (ha!).

Another player who appears to be on the verge of signing for United is former Portsmouth and expensive Man City flop Lee Bradbury. Bradbury played for Rix at Pompey, and is now 28, so should have plenty of time to try and make a mark. He was most recently at Walsall, where he played seven games at the end of last season. Radio Oxford also reported, in their earlier bulletins, that Oxford were allegedly about to sign Teddy Sheringham, another ex-Portsmouth type, although this item disappeared from their later broadcasts.

United have also missed out on two players who they had apparently targeted. Former Chelsea defender Andy Myers, most recently at Colchester, held talks with Rix a few weeks ago, but last week he signed for Brentford. Midfielder Tony Caceres was also in Rix’s plans, and played in the behind-closed-doors trial match held at the end of last season. However Yeovil offered him a contract ahead of Oxford and he chose using a first-come basis. Meanwhile, former United defender Darren Purse is in negotiations with West Brom, who have agreed a fee for him with Birmingham City.
