Ray Harford, who was technical director of Oxford United in November 1999 until he resigned in January 2000, died today of cancer. Harford was 58 years old. The midfielder has been playing for Cambridge United for the past seven seasons, after starting his career at Oxford in November 1991, ironically against Cambridge United. Oxford have apparently informed five of the triallists who have been at the club in the pre-season that they will not be offered contracts.
