Raging Fever played a friendly against Hull supporters, on their way down the A420, this morning, seeing as Rochdale don’t have a fans’ team. For the second time in eight days Rochdale beat United thanks to a last minute goal. This time Oxford failed to clear a corner properly, and a shot came back off the post, hit goalie Chris Tardif, and went in for the cruellest of own goals. For the second consecutive Saturday Oxford are forced to play against Rochdale. Demeaning enough in itself, but this match comes hot on the heels of United’s defeat in the FA Cup to this little-known Mancunian suburb. In an astonishing move Graham Rix has been removed from the manager position at Oxford United. This, given Rix’s record in charge of team affairs, isn’t in itself too great a surprise. What is strange is that he hasn’t actually been dismissed, rather he has been “asked to assume an upstairs role at the club”  [ more ]

Despite going a goal ahead through Lee Bradbury in the 20th minute, Oxford were eventually knocked out of this season’s FA Cup. Oxford chairman Firoz Kassam was interviewed by Radio Oxford following this afternoon’s FA Cup defeat at Rochdale. Kassam expressed his disappointment and frustration with the way things have been going, and reiterated his statement that there was money available for new players, but it was up to the manager to use it. It’s FA Cup time on Saturday, giving the lads and supporters a welcome respite from their troubled league season. United visit Rochdale hoping for some sort of tonic before facing the same opponents in the league the following week.
