Bottom of the League

Bottom of the League

United sank to their lowest position since 1965 as they went bottom of Division Two after losing 3-0 at Vale Park to a not particularly inspiring Port Vale side. Like last week Oxford went 1-0 down on the half hour to a goal from Tony Naylor. Two goals in two minutes in the second half from Marc Bridge-Wilkinson killed any lingering United resistance in front of an embarrassingly low attendance of just 3,814. Playing with a 4-5-1 formation, Lee Jarman was dropped from last week and Neil McGowan started at left back. Derek Lilley began on the right of midfield leaving Manny Omoyinmi ploughing a lone furrow up front. Ian McGuckin went off injured after 35 minutes to be replace at centre back by Steve Anthrobus! A double substitution after Vale's third goal saw Lilley and Peter Fear replaced by Joey Beauchamp and Jamie Cook. Check out this match report, if you wish.

Paul Moody scored Millwall's opener in their 4-3 win at Notts County.

Rico MoM

Jon Richardson easily won the Rage Online readers Man of the Match award for the Peterborough game, with 79% of the vote. Manny Omoyinmi came second with 16% and John Robertson finished third with just 5%.

Weatherstone (cont.)

The debate about what to do with Ross Weatherstone continues, with the large majority of fans apparently repulsed at Weatherstone's behaviour these are split whether or not sacking is an appropriate punishment or whether the player should receive a ban and undergo some sort of community service. This view is echoed in today's Guardian by Oxford-based columnist Jim White in his article “The Manor Offers A Bad Example“. Whatever, all are agreed that the response from the club so far has been sadly inadequate, and the hope is that once Firoz Kassam is back at his desk something more positive will be forthcoming.
