Oxford's reserves let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Watford at Boreham Wood this afternoon. Asa Hall gave Oxford the lead after just 72 seconds, heading home a Josh Payne cross. On 24 minutes a long-range shot from Aaron Woodley came back off the post, with triallist from Leicester City academy Elliott Chamberlain being the first to react to score from the rebound.
Five minutes before the break Watford pulled a goal back when Chez Isaac scored after a corner was only half cleared. United continued to hold on until the 65th minute, when Britt Assombalonga headed home from a free-kick to give Simon Eastwood no chance.
Oxford had chances to win the game, notably when Matt Green burst through with only 'keeper Jonathon Bond to beat, but as is often his wont, Green fluffed the chance and Bond saved both Green's effort and the follow-up with his legs. In the final act of the game a Watford free-kick by Sean Murray went narrowly wide.
United: Simon Eastwood, Ben Purkiss, Anthony Tonkin, McLaren, Leigh Franks (Cole Hinchliffe), Gaughan (Dan West), Elliott Chamberlain (Conor McDonagh), Josh Payne, Aaron Woodley, Asa Hall, Matt Green.
