Bevans agrees extension

Right-back Matt Bevans is remaining at Oxford United this summer after the club activated a clause in his contract.

The 20-year-old defender will remain at the Kassam Stadium for a further year having only joined the Yellows last summer following his release from Division Two side Watford.

Bevans made his Us debut in Oxford’s 1-0 victory against Gateshead in their FA Cup first-round replay back in early December, before going onto make 12 appearances for the club last season.

He said: “I’m delighted to be staying at Oxford for another year. It’s a great set up here and I feel that I’ve really progressed as a player. “Now I want to kick on and try to make even more first team appearances although I know I’ve still got a lot to learn.”

Meanwhile Oxford manager Gary Waddock added: “We’re very pleased to keep Matt on. He’s progressed really well in his first year here and is one for the future.”
