Barnet
Oxford United don't have much of a history with Barnet, having played the Bees just three times. The first meeting was in the first round of the Auto Windscreens Shield in 1995, when the Us won 3-2 on their first visit to Underhill. The second visit was almost ten years later in the Fourth Division, when the sides drew 0-0 and Oxford had to play in Barnet's orange away strip, the home side having decided to adopt their all-black colours for home games for some reason. United got their revenge for this humiliation in the reverse fixture, in April 2006, when two goals from Tcham N'Toya, the first after just 41 seconds, earned Oxford what was to prove to be their last Football League victory (so far).
Barnet have been around since 1912, when they were formed out of a merger between Barnet Alston and Avenue FC. Barnet Alston were formed in 1901 as Alston Works FC, playing in Chipping Barnet and known as the “Amber and Blacks”. They changed their name when they adopted senior football in 1904, and moved to Underhill in 1907. Upon merging with Avenue FC the club was renamed Barnet & Alston FC and they became founder members of the Athenian League. They changed their name to Barnet FC after the First World War.
Barnet's rise started in the 1960s, as they turned semi-professional in 1965. They were promoted to the Southern League Premier the following year and in 1979 they joined the newly formed Alliance Premier League, which later became the Conference. After finishing runners-up on three occasions, Barnet won the Conference title in 1991 and joined the Football League, reaching the Fourth Division play-offs in their first season and finishing third and winning promotion the following year. They were relegated the next season and eventually dropped back into the Conference in 2001. After four years the Bees won the Conference title by 12 points to return to the League and hover in mid-table obscurity thereafter.
Barnet's colours are still amber and black, with a delightful change strip of lilac and silver. They still play at Underhill, which has a capacity of 5,568 (2,934 seated). Away supporters are housed in the East Terrace (last season's prices were:
