A James Constable brace helped Oxford United to stretch their unbeaten run to eight games with a Boxing Day victory over Exeter City.

Jamie Cureton hit the woodwork for the hosts before Constable pounced upon a loose ball in the Grecians’ penalty area to smash home the opener with his right foot.

The striker doubled the lead early in the second half as he raced clear to slot past the advancing Artur Krysiak.

The game was all but over two minutes later as Peter Leven struck a left-footed effort across his body with perfect accuracy.

Exeter were gifted a lifeline when Damian Batt was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area and Cureton sent Clarke the wrong way from the spot.

New signing Josh Parker came close to a fourth on his début as his shot narrowly avoided both the post and the onrushing Constable.

The victory moves United up to 16th position ahead of the visit to AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.
