Barrow at home in the 2nd round

From the Rage Online newsdesk Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Oxford United have been handed another home draw in the second round of FA Cup. They have been drawn to play fellow Conference side Barrow who, coincidentally, are the next Conference visitors to the United Stadium. The game will be played on Saturday 28 November, necessitating the rearrangement of Oxford's home game against Cambridge United.

United have never faced Barrow in cup competition before, but in league games the Barrovians have never won in Oxford. While this tie might not be the big money spinner United would have been hoping for, it does at least give Oxford a decent chance of progressing to round three.

Oxford City today lost 3-2 at Burton Albion, with former United player Michael Alexis putting City ahead and Jamie Brooks scoring an equaliser. In our round-up of first round ties that we brought you yesterday, we neglected to mention that, with the exception of Kettering, all United's promotion rivals drew and will therefore face the burden of a replay. Stevenage Borough drew 1-1 at Port Vale, Mansfield Town were held to a 1-1 draw at Forest Green Rovers, Steve Basham scored twice for Luton Town to give the Hatters a 3-0 half-time lead against Rochdale, but Dale fought back to draw 3-3. We should also have pointed out that Oxford's attendance of 6,144 was the highest FA Cup gate of the day, with only Bristol Rovers' crowd of 6,446 for their 3-2 defeat by Southampton being a better attendance of the round (with Millwall to play AFC Wimbledon tomorrow).

Meanwhile, we should point out that United's Conference game at Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday 24 November has been made all-ticket. [@opponent]barrow[/@opponent]
