Baldock’s Back

Article by Dan Church Tuesday, June 30th, 2015

George Baldock has returned to Oxford United on a season-long loan.

The Milton Keynes Dons defender joins the Us ahead of the 2015-2016 campaign following his loan spell at the club last season.

Baldock, 22, made a dozen appearances for the Yellows, scoring once as Oxford finished strongly under head coach Michael Appleton in the latter stages of the 2014-15 Division Four season.

After re-joining United for the forthcoming campaign, Baldock said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Oxford and am more than happy to be back.

“We got on a decent run and the team finished really strongly.

“If you look at the players that the club have signed this summer then there is even more quality and depth to the squad this time around and that makes coming back for a longer period a very exciting challenge for me.

“The fans were great, the club is ambitious and I’m looking forward to joining up with everyone this week and getting a full pre-season under my belt.”

Baldock becomes Oxford’s fifth summer signing, joining Kemar Roofe, Liam Sercombe, Ryan Taylor and Sam Slocombe at the Kassam Stadium. Appleton added: “We are really pleased to have George back again.

“He fitted in superbly last season, he is a local lad and he is ambitious to be part of a successful side here.

“The fans took to him straight away and we think he is only going to get better the more games he plays at right back. Most importantly he is hungry and he wanted to come back to Oxford, which I think speaks volumes for the way the club is heading.”

Baldock’s arrival follows his decision to sign a new two-year deal with Karl Robinson’s men at the Stadium:MK, plus the clubs triple signing of Dale Jennings, Simon Church and Cody Cropper on Tuesday.

Meanwhile; Oxford’s longest serving player, Ryan Clarke, may have played his final game for the Division Four outfit.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper is expected to leave the Us next month following the signing of fellow shot-stopper Slocombe from Scunthorpe United earlier this summer.

And lastly, United’s visit to Conference play-off champions Bristol Rovers will be televised live on Sky Sports.

The Yellows’ trip to the Memorial Stadium has been put back 24 hours to Sunday 6th September (12:15 K.O) to abide to the TV schedule.
