Back stroke to Crawley

From the Rage Online newsdesk Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Oxford United visit Crawley Town this evening knowing that if they slip up they could relinquish the top spot in the Conference. With Stevenage Borough facing a relatively easy trip to Ebbsfleet United tonight, Oxford will need to take at least a point from the Gatwick boys if they don't want to hand Stevenage a psychological boost.

Oxford will be able to welcome back leading scorer James Constable, who was rested for the FA Cup second round draw with Barrow on Saturday after tweaking his back in the 1-0 win at Forest Green Rovers one week ago. In that game it took a piece of individual brilliance from Constable to gain the points, and United will be hoping for more of the same this evening. Also available for selection are the two loan forwards, Onome Sodje and Franny Green, neither of whom could play in the FA Cup tie. On the debit side, the Us will be without Luke Foster, suspended for this match because of his red card on Saturday, and Steven Kinniburgh, whose injury from Saturday's game could see him miss the remainder of his loan time at United. Kevin Sandwith is likely to return to the side to deputise for Kinniburgh, while Foster's replacement will be either Kinniburgh's fellow Rangers loanee Ross Perry or the forgotten man, Rhys Day. Day, who would be an automatic choice for any other Conference side, is unfortunate to find himself behind Foster and Mark Creighton in the pecking order, but will doubtless be chomping at the bit to show Chris Wilder what he is capable of. The Wales under-21 international has made just two starts this season, both back in August.

Crawley claim that they are beset by injuries, although with Steve Evans in charge it is difficult to believe anything that emanates from that club. We do know that Adam Quinn, the captain, has served his suspension and will be back in the side, although Barry Cogan serves the last of his three-game ban. Former-United forward Jefferson Louis is on loan at Rushden & Diamonds. Among the players that they claim are not 100 per cent fit are Eddie Hutchinson, although Oxford will be hoping that he is fit enough to play. Also in the Crawley side is former Us triallist Peggy Lokando, who failed to impress when he was on trial at the Kas having been released by Southend United.
