Aston Tirrold 2 Raging Fever 2

After the 6-1 sizzler against Peterborough two weeks earlier, Fever failed to raise the temperature and instead produced a rather luke-warm display.

With the two Steves, Fuller and Gilbert, looking bright and eager, Fever started the stronger of the two teams, despite having to kick uphill. But for all their dominance in terms of possession, the Yellows failed to produce any real chances on goal. Stuart Burson came closest to breaking the deadlock when he burst through on the right hand side of the area, only to blaze his shot wide of the mark. A couple of speculative efforts from Jamie Pill and Steve Fuller also failed to really test the keeper. And despite dogged approach work and, at times, some neat passing, the final ball never quite found its man.

Having not actually played a game together all season, the opposition had understandably started a little nervously. But as Fever failed to make the most of their early advantage, the home team gradually gained in confidence, urged on by an array of wives and children. Fortunately Rob Muskett was his usual muscular presence, ably supported by Geoff Carter in defence, and Fever were able to keep their opponents at bay.

It was the Yellows who finally opened the scoring on thirty-five minutes. A low in-swinging corner from Gez Foster somehow managed to sneak through a crowd of players and Steve Fuller was left with the straightforward task of walking the ball into an unguarded net.
