Armand lends Oxford a hand

Oxford United have announced the loan signing of Armand Gnanduillet until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old arrives at the Kassam Stadium from Division Three side Chesterfield, having scored three goals in 30 appearances for the Spireites this season.

Gnanduillet started his career at French outfit Le Havre, also home to Juventus superstar Paul Pogba and fellow United forward Jeremy Balmy, before joining Poissy.

The towering 6ft 5 striker signed for Chesterfield back in January 2013, helping the club win the Division Four title last year.

Gnanduillet’s title credentials were an appealing factor for Us head coach Michael Appleton: “He made a big impression last year when Chesterfield won this division and he has been in and around their squad for most of this season.

“He is a big lad but he is mobile as well and gives defenders a lot of problems.

“He gives us something different at the top of the pitch and we are pleased to have him here with us.”

Having been born and raised in France, Gnanduillet is in fact eligible to represent the Ivory Coast at senior level after playing at Under-23 level.

Gnanduillet, who scored twice in a four-game loan spell with Tranmere Rovers earlier this season, completed the necessary paperwork in time to be eligible to make his Yellows debut tomorrow night when Oxford entertain Morecambe at the Kassam Stadium.

The Us are currently 17th in Division Four, but only five points above the relegation zone.
