Oxford moved a giant step toward safety this afternoon when Stoke City beat Cardiff 2-1 at the Brittania Ground. Cardiff now need at least a point from their game at Gillingham on Tuesday to avoid the drop. Arnar Gunnlaugsson opened the scoring from a free kick in the third minute, and he also set up James O'Connor to put Stoke 2-0 up after 69 minutes. Scott Young pulled a goal back for Cardiff two minutes later but Stoke held out to give United a real chance of staying up.
Meanwhile in the Premiership Dean Windass scored Bradford's third goal as they beat Wimbledon 3-0 to leap-frog them and move out of the bottom three for the first time in ages.
