All rosey for Posey

From the Rage Online newsdesk Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Aaron Posey scored his first goal for United's reserves at Carrow Road this afternoon, as the second string did very well to hold Norwich City to a 2-2 draw. Indeed, United twice took the lead, and can consider themselves unfortunate not to pick up their second successive win, following the 1-0 win over Stevenage Borough nine days ago.[@news]2088[/@news]

United took the lead almost immediately, as Billy Beechers was set free and saw his shot from the edge of the area deflect over Steven Arnold. The remainder of the first half was fairly even, although Matt Day had a couple of near misses for United. Oxford were fielding a very young team, with only goalie Chris Tardif over 20, and only he and Day with anything resembling regular first-team experience. Beechers and Andy Gunn were the only other players to have come anywhere near the first team, the remainder of the side comprising Darren Patterson's youth team, plus Josh Mulvany, recalled from his loan at Didcot Town to play this one match.

The Norwich side was also quite young, but included former Manchester United winger Luke Chadwick, on his return from injury. In the 53rd minute the Canaries equalised when Alvin Quaye converted a Chadwick corner from close range. Twelve minutes later United restored their lead after Beechers played in Daniel Meade. His run and cross was met by Posey, the shortest lad on the pitch, to head home. This time the lead lasted just six minutes before blond bombshell Robert Eagle was adjudged to have been fouled in the box, and Republic of Ireland Under-18 captain Micheal Spillane converted the penalty. A draw against Championship opponents is a decent result for the youngsters, while Beechers himself will be pleased to have converted again with contract talks fast approaching.
