There was movement of sorts up at Minchery Farm today, although after all our expectations it was something of an anti-climax. Essentially Birse took delivery of a couple of new portakabins, all the ones currently on site still being owned by Barr, who are responsible for the perimeter fencing, but all bar two of them have been vandalised beyond any usefulness. The first task is to make the site safe before a team of about sixty builders starts on site on November 20th, which involves removing a lot of the block and brick work on the south stand which has been exposed to the elements for the last four years. The Birse representative on the site told Rage Online that he is confident that despite this short delay the company would have no problems meeting the July deadline for completion.
There are reports that an innocent bystander was killed during clashes between Oxford and Reading fans in Reading town centre before Saturday's game. The victim is rumoured to be a woman who stepped out onto the road trying to avoid a fight and was hit by a car. Meanwhile a Reading fan is recovering in hospital after being stabbed and a couple of United supporters were treated for bottle wounds.
Firoz Kassam cancelled a television interview this morning in order to meet instead with his consultant Joe Kinnear to try and get a better understanding of goings on at the club. The meeting took place at Kassam's residence at Heythrop Hall, near Enstone, where presumably (hopefully) the main topic of discussion was who to bring in to replace Mike Ford as manager.
