Oxford United winger Alfie Potter has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The 23 year-old has fractured his ankle after falling awkwardly in training yesterday. A scan revealed the speedy forward suffered a displaced fracture of the talus, which is a bone in the lower section of the ankle joint having spent that day at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington. After being taken to the hospital immediately after the incident, a specialist advised Potter that an operation would be needed. This is a huge blow for both Oxford United and Alfie himself, after Alfie finally found his form with a terrific solo effort to earn United a point away at Burton Albion last Sunday.
Potter joined the Us in June 2010 on a permanent deal from Peterborough United, having spent the previous season on loan at the Kassam Stadium from the Posh. The former Havant & Waterlooville forward, who famously scored against Liverpool at Anfield in the FA Cup, signed a new one-year contract extension with an option of a further year with the Yellows back in October.
