Aldershot clinch permanent deal for free Payne

Josh Payne has completed a free transfer to Aldershot Town. The former West Ham youngster had been on loan at the EBB Stadium and a full-time move has now been completed. Oxford United will receive a percentage of any future transfer fee for the midfielder.

Payne arrived at Grenoble Road in August 2010 on loan from Doncaster Rovers and impressed during this period, scoring his only United goal against Northampton Town. The loan deal was extended, before the 21 year old agreed a contract to keep him at the club.

Capable of outstanding moments of individual skill, Payne was an attractive player on the eye but all too often struggled to impose himself on matches. Following a successful period with Aldershot Town, coupled with the return of Adam Chapman, this appears to be a move that suits all parties.

During his time at the club, Payne made 28 starts, with a further 10 substitute appearances.
