United visit St Albans tomorrow as the Us look for the win to virtually seal their play-off place.[@opponent]St Albans City[/@opponent] Oxford are seven points clear of sixth-placed Gravesend & Northfleet, but the Fleet do have a game in hand, so with three games left for the Yellows even a victory at Clarence Park tomorrow wouldn't guarantee a top-five finish.[@connection]St Albans City[/@connection] United beat St Albans 2-1 at Minchery Farm on 1 September[@report]266[/@report], and since then the teams have been pretty much at opposite ends of the Conference table.
Jim Smith is unlikely to make many changes to the side that beat Weymouth 4-1 on Monday. Rufus Brevett is still suspended, while Andy Burgess and Rob Duffy are still struggling with injuries. It is possible that Luke Foster may replace Mike Corcoran in defence, as Smith has hinted that he will be playing the team most likely to feature in the play offs, and Corcoran won't be eligible, despite being told by Cardiff City that he can leave. This game is Smith's 250th in charge of United[@manager]Smith, Jim[/@manager], and if Oxford win then exactly half of those games will have been victorious.
St Albans had their relegation confirmed on Monday, when they drew 1-1 at Tamworth. The danger for United is that this will relieve any pressure felt by the players, and they will approach the game in a different frame of mind to their previous games. They have not won a match since they beat Halifax 3-2 on 27 January, a run of 13 games without victory. They will be without midfielder Ram Marwa, who is serving a one-match ban. The game is not all-ticket, and with a large away following expected this could mean that, once again, United supporters will outnumber the home fans.
Conference champions Dagenham & Redbridge have a home game against Altrincham, but of more significance to United is the visit of third-placed Morecambe to Weymouth, whom Oxford will be hoping to produce a backlash after their sorry display on Easter Monday. The Shrimpers are level with United on points, but have a far inferior goal difference. York City are only two points behind, and they face a trip to Stafford, who are fifth from bottom and fighting for survival. Exeter City are a further two points behind York, and they welcome Cambridge United to St James Park. Cambridge are only three points above the drop zone, and so they will also be pulling out all the stops, we hope.
Gravesend play another team fighting against relegation, as second-bottom Southport visit Kent. Again, our best wishes to the Merseysiders. Burton Albion are still harbouring play-off hopes, and they welcome Grays Athletic, yet another side at the wrong end of the table, just two points above the drop zone. Aldershot, who can still make the play offs, travel to Halifax, who occupy the fourth-bottom spot. Stevenage Borough can also sneak into the play offs, and they host third-bottom Tamworth. The only other teams who could possibly obtain play-off places are Kidderminster Harriers and Northwich Victoria. Kiddy travel to Rushden & Diamonds, while the Vics welcome Crawley Town.
