A chance to Impress

From the Rage Online newsdesk Monday, February 28th, 2011

By Mark Gelder Oxford United pay their first visit to Lincoln City's Sincil Bank since August 2005 when the Us lost 2-1 under Brian Talbot, Craig Davies scoring first before surrendering the lead late on.  Substitutes for Lincoln that day included Francis Green and Marvin Robinson.  Bizarrely the Us have only ever faced the Imps in the bottom two divisions of the league, with no cup games at all, and just a couple of friendlies.

After the disappointment of Saturday's defeat to Hereford United, the Yellows  will have to regroup and hope for a better result on Tuesday night if they are to make a serious play-off challenge.  Again, there are no known injuries and although the team was unchanged from Morecambe and lost, it is likely that Chris Wilder allows the same starting line up another chance, although if things are not working out the substitutions may come a bit earlier to try and shake things up.

We have not yet had the opportunity to see Lincoln this season, this away game being postponed from the original 11 December due to the snow.

The Imps have won two, lost three, and drawn one of their last six games, in most recent order, losing to Barnet (23rd) and Chesterfield (1st), drawing at Aldershot (18th), beating Morecambe (19th), losing to Shrewsbury (4th), and winning away at Hereford (17th).
24 year-old striker Ashley Grimes has 13 goals this season and is well clear of his team-mates, with three trailing in with 4 goals apiece.  Grimes is on a season long loan from Millwall, having been at the Manchester City academy, before signing for Bolton Wanderers, but it seems he has only played at Millwall and a few substitute appearances for the club at the other end of the A420.  Lincoln are in 16th place on 38 points, and it seems unlikely to trouble either the play-offs or the relegation places.  United should look to improve on their bad luck while dominating possession on Saturday and with the Imps losing to Barnet, surely the Us will approach this match with the intention of gaining all three points.  The score prediction is 2-1 to United.
