United visit Dagenham & Redbridge tonight for the first time, in their first Conference away game. Both sides had a winning start to the new season, Oxford beating Halifax 2-0 at the United Stadium, and Dagenham winning 1-0 at Forest Green Rovers. The sides have never met before.
Jim Smith is likely to keep the same side that played so well against Halifax on Saturday, despite minor injury doubts over Rob Duffy, who was replaced by Steve Basham at the weekend, and Andy Burgess. Neither Basham nor Yemi Odubade played in the reserves defeat by Norwich at Didcot last night, in case they are needed this evening. Chris Willmott, who also didn’t play for the reserves yesterday, sits out the second game of his three-match suspension.
Dagenham & Redbridge are the results of a merger between Dagenham and Redbridge Forest (themselves formed from a couple of other outfits), as that part of East London tried to rationalise the number of competing sides in the area. They have a small squad, which has been further depleted by injuries, although Saturday’s goalscorer Anwar Uddin is one to watch. There should be a healthy away following tonight, and if Rage Online’s prediction is anything to go by (and we were spot on with Saturday’s result) they will witness a 1-1 draw.
