Oxford United will welcome back winger Callum O’Dowda and goalkeeper Benji Buchel for Saturday’s trip to Leyton Orient. The pair missed the 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon following call ups for Republic of Ireland Under 21’s and Liechtenstein respectively.
O’Dowda followed up his impressive form for club and country, with his first goal in Friday’s 3-0 win over Lithuania Under 21’s in Waterford. A fantastic run found the young winger with space to comfortably volley home inside the area. With Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane from the senior management team watching on, it looks like O’Dowda could have a bright future with the Republic.
There was another 90 minutes yesterday for him, as the Irish went down 1-0 to Italy’s Under 21’s in what was a brave performance against a talented side.
Benji Buchel was an unused substitute in Liechtenstein’s 2-0 defeat to Sweden and 3-0 defeat to Austria as their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign came to an end.
Oxford Head Coach Michael Appleton will be relishing to have both players available for the trip to Leyton Orient, especially after excellent performances from both in the 2-0 win over Swindon Town.
