United’s Young Player of the Season, Craig Davies, scored both goals as United reserves beat Aldershot this evening. The game was originally scheduled to have been played at Court Place Farm, but a waterlogged pitch meant that it couldn’t go ahead, and instead it was played behind closed doors at the KasStad.
Davies gave United the lead after 25 minutes, and scored his second just after the hour. In the meantime United had several chances to score, but were denied by some excellent goalkeeping by Andrew Glasspool, as well as some wasteful finishing. As well as Davies, Billy Beechers, Amine Karam, and substitute Tom Winters all went close.
On Monday evening, at the annual sponsors’ dinner, as well as Davies being given his award, goalkeeper Chris Tardif won the Players’ Player of the Season. The award for the Supporters’ Player of the Season will be made on the pitch prior to the Chester game. There was also what sounded like a valedictory speech from Ramon Diaz, although Peter Rhoades-Brown assured the crowd that it was just a mis-translation. Meanwhile next season’s season-ticket prices have been announced, and they are being kept the same price as they were this season. There will also be a reduction for tickets bought on the day, and kids under 7 will be allowed in for free if booked in advance. So, some sensible decisions coming out of the boardroom – let’s hope that they continue this trend by announcing Diaz’s (and entourage) retention.
