Oxford United Head Coach Michael Appleton was left frustrated yesterday, after another missed penalty proved to be costly, as United fell to a 1-0 defeat to Chris Wilder’s Northampton Town. This raised the question on who should take responsibility for spot kicks from now on.
Danny Hylton was the man to miss yesterday’s spot kick and his record is remarkably similar to former talisman James Constable. Hylton looked unstoppable from 12 yards with 5 successful penalties, including a cheeky chip in last year’s away game at Northampton Town. However the home game with Wycombe Wanderers has proved to be at turning point; when Hylton blazed a spot kick into the car park, in a game where he had already converted one in the 1st half. Conveniently United went a few months before their next spot kick and Hylton redeemed himself by converting in ice cool fashion against Mansfield.
However Hylton’s next penalty away at Bury was saved, before an abysmal blazed effort in a pre season game at Coventry in Pre-season, prompted Appleton to seek a new penalty taker.
