Oxford United have announced the loan signing of George Baldock, the club’s third signing in 12 days since the close of the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old right-back joins the Us until the end of the season from Division Three outfit Milton Keynes Dons.
He joins experienced goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown and French midfielder Jeremy Balmy at the Kassam Stadium after both players signed short-term contracts at the club.
George, who is the younger brother of Brighton and Hove Albion striker Sam, has been at MK Dons since he was 10-years-old.
He has made over 50 appearances for Karl Robinson’s side since signing a professional contract with the club back in 2009, including nine games this season for the Dons in their battle for automatic promotion in Division Three.
Baldock has enjoyed previous loan spells at Northampton Town, Tamworth and Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja in Iceland.
Oxford head coach Michael Appleton tried to sign Baldock during the January transfer window, but was delighted to finally seal his signature.
“George has been involved with a team chasing promotion from the division above this season and wants to come here and be part of a successful side,” he said.
“It gives us decent competition for places all over the park and it gives us plenty to think about as we build towards the game at Burton at the weekend.”
Baldock was equally as pleased and is raring to go in a Yellow shirt: “I am really looking forward to it.
“I lost my place at MK because of injury and they have been in such great form that I haven’t been able to get back in, so this is a great chance to come to Oxford, play games and be part of what they are trying to build here.
“A lot of people have told me that Oxford are a club on the up and this is a great opportunity for me.”
Baldock, who has been handed the number 12 shirt by the Yellows, could make his debut against Division Four joint leaders Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.
His arrival also means Oxford are unlikely to extend the loan spell of Rotherham United defender Richard Brindley, whose short-term loan expires later this month.
