Assuming the game survives the current cold snap, United visit Cambridge’s Abbey Stadium tomorrow hoping to carry on where they left off at Cheltenham last weekend. In hindsight, the postponement of the Macclesfield game might prove to be not such a bad thing after all, as Macc are on a decent run of form, and the extra few days recuperation will do the United lads some good. Cambridge were involved in midweek action, coincidentally facing Cheltenham, and securing their first win since they beat Rushden on 20 November.
Head coach Horacio Rodriguez will be forced to change the winning line-up, though, as United have two players suspended, both defenders. Mateo Corbo has picked up five bookings in his first six games, and left-back Matt Robinson has also reached five cautions. Leo Roget returns from suspension and is likely to fill in for Corbo in the centre of defence, while Robbo’s absence could pave the way for a return to action for Terry Parker, who has not played for the first team since the Bury game in September. There are unlikely to be any other changes, unless Rodriguez decides to have a more defensive left-midfield option than Juan Pablo Raponi, in order to protect Parker (if, indeed, that is the change that happens).
Cambridge are currently rock-bottom of the league, and their on-the-pitch problems are compounded by financial difficulties, which could see them slip into administration and thereby lose a further ten points. Their win over Cheltenham might give them some cause for confidence, though, and United would do well to refrain from complacency going into this game. Last season’s meeting ended 1-1, with United’s goal coming from a spectacular shot from Mark Rawle, who has now joined Kidderminster until the end of the season. Caution, and experience, means that Rage Online is going to predict an identical outcome this time round (although with a different scorer for United, obviously).
