Oxford United have announced the signing of striker John Campbell on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
The 26 year-old forward, who began his career at Premier League side Newcastle United, arrives at the Kassam Stadium from Jarrow Roofing.
Campbell, who has also had spells with Manchester City and Darlington, has scored a staggering 24 goals in only 19 appearances for the Northern League Division 1 outfit this season.
He impressed in a recent development game for the Us, and United manager Michael Appleton was delighted to finally capture his man.
“I know a lot of clubs have been looking at him this season and I think it speaks volumes that he has come here,” he said.
“He has been scoring plenty of goals and gets in great positions and we are delighted that he has chosen to join Oxford United.
“Like Chey Dunkley and Patrick Hoban, who both signed last week, we have brought in a good player with a hunger and a point to prove.
“Obviously it’s a step up but we are looking forward to working with him and he is a player we are very excited to have here.”
Campbell added: “I came down and had a look at the club and the facilities a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed by everything.
“Not just the set up but the attitude here; everything and everyone is really positive.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for me to be playing in the Football League again and I can’t wait to get started.”
Campbell’s transfer could be one of several deals sealed before the loan transfer window closes this evening, with boss Appleton open to some players leaving the club on loan, with winger Junior Brown and defender Michael Raynes in the firing line.
