Ahead of tomorrow’s match at Macclesfield, United have brought in Crystal Palace defender Sam Togwell on a one-month loan deal. Togwell has made just one appearance for Palace, and was on the verge of their first team before breaking his leg two seasons ago. Togwell’s 20th birthday was just over a week ago, and what better way to celebrate than by joining Oxford United, even if it is just for a little while.
Togwell goes straight into the squad for the Macc match. Apparently he can play either at right back or in central defence, but one rather suspects that it’s the middle of the back line that is in greater need of strengthening. Whether or not this will determine whether Jon Ashton plays will be determined in the course of time.
One game that won’t be taking place tomorrow is the Raging Fever fixture against the Silkmen supporters. The heavy rain that has fallen on the Cheshire bit of the Peak District has left all local pitches waterlogged, and they have all been closed by the local council, causing the Fever game to be cancelled. Bit of a bugger, really.
