Oxford travel to Northampton tomorrow evening desperately hoping to bring an end to their current dismal run. United have only one away win this season; indeed, only one away win this calendar year. Northampton have struggled at home this season, with only two wins at Sixfields, although they did win at Cambridge on Friday, and so spirits will be high.
United will still be without Jon Ashton and Danny Brown, although Paul Wanless, substituted after being injured on Saturday, will be fit. There’s still no news on Tom Winters. One player who won’t be travelling with the Oxford squad is striker Julian Alsop. He was sacked today by the United board following a disciplinary hearing. Allegedly he was involved in a training-ground bust-up with another player, although in their statement the club refused to go into detail.
Northampton’s danger man is former swindon striker Eric Sabin, while Oxford’s danger man is, er, no-one at present. There are murmerings that if United lose at Sixfields and at Macclesfield on Saturday it could be the end of the road for Graham Rix, although Firoz Kassam is likely to be more patient than some United supporters, seeing as it is his money that Rix has spent on a whole team’s worth of new players. Rage Online is more concerned with the result of tomorrow’s match, although unfortunately we can’t see beyond a home win, probably 2-0 or thereabouts.
