Sweet Fever

From the Rage Online newsdesk Saturday, October 16th, 2004

Raging Fever stormed to victory this morning over their dazed and confused counterparts from Lincoln, for their first win of the season. Fever started brightly and had the better of the first half. Gary Butler didn’t have a shot to save in the first period, and Fever went in at the break 3-0 up, thanks to two strikes from leading scorer John Matthews sandwiching a Gary Silver header.

The Lincoln lads rallied briefly at the start of the second half, and pulled a goal back from a corner that was only partially cleared. Matthews completed his hat-trick to restore Fever’s three-goal cushion, but another Lincoln corner led to another Red Imp goal. Questions were asked in the Fever defence as Butler had to be alert to prevent a couple of other chances, but Fever, featuring three debutants who came on at the start of the second period, then took control as their superior fitness kicked in.

First Steve Fuller cut in from the left to score, then just a minute later Matthews struck from the right of the area. Left back Mark Howland got in on the act with a superb solo effort, and Silver added an eighth from close-range. Pat Wehmeier scored direct from a free-kick before Silver completed his hat-trick, and the scoring, to leave Fever 10-2 winners.
