United play their second away match of the season on Saturday, at Leyton Orient. Because the Matchstick Stadium has been half demolished the ground will actually have one fewer side than the KasStad. Unfortunately this means that United have only been allocated 500 tickets, but at least Oxford’s supporters won’t be stuck on an open terrace this season.
United will be able to welcome back Leo Roget to the heart of the defence, having served his one-match suspension, presumably at the expense of Lee Molyneaux, which is a shame as the rookie has performed well in his match and a half. David Woozley is still not fit yet, and so Graham Rix will probably play the same back four that started the Boston and Mansfield games. Being an away game one assumes (probably prematurely) that Rix will stick with the more traditional, and stronger, 4-4-2 formation, meaning that Tommy Mooney and Lee Bradbury are most likely to start up front. In midfield we expect to see Paul Wanless return, having recovered from his illness, and we would hope that ROS Chris Hackett will feature from the beginning. Rob Wolleaston will almost certainly be in the side, so the remaining berth is up for grabs. Danny Brown hasn’t really shone on the left, and Terry Parker could be preferred, although Barry Quinn could also be under consideration. Oh, who knows?
Orient, of course, feature two Oxford old-boys in Lee Steele and Andy Scott. Both will doubtless be doing their best to undermine their former club and, history being what it is, they will probably succeed. Orient’s start to the season has been pretty much the same as Oxford’s, with a win, a draw, and a defeat, and Rage Online, optimism knocked out the window, predicts a 2-1 win to the home side.
