Oxford United 1 Barnet 0
Michael Raynes netted a late winner as Oxford United snatched victory from an otherwise frustrating evening against Barnet.
The big centre-back, who also scored late in stoppage time at Accrington Stanley, was in the right place to head home after Tom Craddock had headed the ball across the face of the goal from Scott Davies’ free-kick.
It had looked like being two points dropped for the hosts as James Constable and Alfie Potter both missed opportunities.
Barnet have improved significantly since the FA Cup meeting earlier in the season and could have taken the lead when Mark Byrne forced Luke McCormick into a sharp stop.
A crunching tackle by Andy Whing on former Dutch international Edgar Davids warmed the hearts of even the coldest United fan in a combative second half and the men in yellow were rewarded for their endeavour as Raynes popped up at the death to give United a fourth win in five league games.
Oxford are now in ninth place in the table, five points off a play-off place. Dare to dream?
