Marsh recalled

Oxford United have recalled Tyrone Marsh from his loan spell at Staines Town FC. The young striker has been called back to the Kassam Stadium in order to be part of United’s squad that travel to Accrington Stanley on the last day of the season.

The 19-year-old impressed during his spell at Wheatsheaf Park, scoring nine goals in 16 appearances for the club. After playing for the Swans last night in their 2-0 home defeat to Dover Athletic, Oxford have decided to withdraw Marsh from his loan stint after helping the Blue Square Bet North club out of relegation trouble.

The former youth graduate bagged his first senior goal for the Yellow’s against Southend United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy earlier this season and looks to be in contention for this weekend’s clash at Crown Ground. Following the news of youth team players Callum O’Dowda, David Lynn and Sam Long all being offered professional contracts, it seems Oxford are really committing to their youth team progression with goalkeeper Max Crocombe also impressing this campaign.

Marsh was grateful for his time at Staines: “I have enjoyed my time at Staines. It is a good club and everyone made me feel very at home. I learnt a lot during my time there, played games and scored a few goals. I am looking forward to coming back to Oxford and being part of the squad again up at Accrington on Saturday”.

Meanwhile in other news, veteran teammate Michael Duberry has announced his intentions to continue playing next season. However the 37 year-old does not know where he will be playing next year, as he is out of contract at the end of the season amongst a large number of United’s playing squad.

The former Chelsea and Leeds United centre-half battled a serious neck operation from last summer, but still feels he has plenty to offer Oxford ahead of next season.

“I am fit and well and still have the hunger and desire. I will stop when I want to stop, not because people say I am too old.

“I love football. Many pros I have spoken to have told me to play for as long as you can because once it’s gone, you can never get it back.

“I love playing. I love competing against forwards – the young ones coming through that run me down the line.

“How many do that and get away with it? I still believe that they walk away at the final whistle knowing they have had a good game against me”.
