No game, still top

From the Rage Online newsdesk Saturday, January 3rd, 2004

United remain in top spot today, despite not having a game, thanks to Doncaster going down 3-1 at Huddersfield, who moved up to seventh and are looking a good bet to challenge for promotion. Hull City moved into second place after beating Cambridge 2-0. The Tigers are now just one point behind Oxford, but have played two games more.

Lincoln moved up to sixth after beating Bury 2-1, while Torquay dropped to ninth after going down 1-0 at Rochdale. Bottom club Carlisle beat Boston 2-1 to move to just six points behind Darlington, who lost 1-0 at Orient.

In the FA Cup Lee Trundle scored both Swansea’s goals as they beat Macclesfield 2-1 to set themselves up for United’s visit on Tuesday. Macc had Steve Macauley sent off. Other Third Division clubs suffered mixed fortunes: Kidderminster held Wolves to a 1-1 draw, but Southend were similarly held by Scarborough. Northampton managed to keep Rotherham to a 1-1 scoreline, and Scunthorpe got a goalless draw up at Barnsley, but Mansfield lost 2-0 at Burnley and had two players sent off in the process, which will hopefully hinder their promotion challenge to some extent.

In the Conference Howard Forinton put Farnborough ahead against Exeter City, but the Grecians eventually won 2-1.
