Footyless Saturday

From the Rage Online newsdesk Saturday, December 6th, 2003

Although there were no games of any importance today, it’s worth noting that Hull City beat Bury 2-0 to go back up to second in the Third, leaving Bury in 12th position. Bury are still one place behind York, who lost 3-0 at Darlington, allowing the Quakers to move up to fourth from bottom.

In the FA Cup a number of United’s Division Three rivals were involved, with Mansfield Town last night taking Wycombe to a replay, and they picked up a couple of welcome yellow cards in the process. Swansea further extended their season with a 2-1 win over Stevenage, meaning that their home game against Oxford on January 3rd will have to be postponed, while Yeovil only picked up one booking in their 5-1 win over Barnet, for whom Simon King also received a yellow card.

Other Third Division sides who find themselves in the draw for the third round are Cheltenham, who beat Orient 3-1, Northampton who beat Lee Jarman’s Weston-Super-Mare 4-1, Southend United, 3-0 victors over Lincoln City, and Kidderminster who won 3-0 at Woking. Macclesfield and Cambridge drew 1-1, while Scunthorpe were held 2-2 by Sheffield Wednesday after being 2-0 ahead.
