Due to there not being a game this weekend, United entertained a local non-league side in a meaningless friendly fixture at the KasStad this afternoon. The game was behind closed doors, meaning that the players had to take to the field through an open window.
As it happened the opposition scraped a lucky 1-0 win after Matt Robinson was clearly fouled as he tried to clear the ball, which bobbled towards Andy Woodman. The opposing striker then fell over the ball as he tried to hack it clear, only to slice it into the United goal.
Previously Steve Basham hit the post, hurting his hand, before the rest of the players hit the bar. It was a game of three halves, reffed by local official Dermot Gallagher, and it allowed a good run-out for those first-teamers fit enough. And Derek Townsley. Meanwhile on Monday those same non-leaguers will receive another footballing lesson from United’s reserves.
