Brandish the sword

From the Rage Online newsdesk Tuesday, November 18th, 2003

A last minute goal from substitute Matt Brandish gave United a win that they barely deserved over Oxford City at Court Place Farm this evening. United took the lead after just 30 seconds when ROS Chris Hackett finished well and it looked like it could be a high-scoring game when Mark Rawle finished from close-range after a strong run from Jefferson Louis, whose shot was parried by the City ‘keeper into Rawle’s path.

However United were unable to capitalise on their obvious superiority and Danny Wise pulled a goal back for City before half-time. In the second period the Us huffed and puffed but rarely threatened and they had a couple of close shaves before Mark Baker shot home to equalise.

There was a big scare for United when Rawle had to be stretchered from the field and this must surely be a cause for concern to all as the United striker was challenging for a starting place. Louis later hit the post with an excellent strike, but until Brandish’s late goal it looked like City had done enough to earn the draw.
