Winning Fever

From the Rage Online newsdesk Saturday, November 15th, 2003

In the big match this morning Raging Fever outclassed their Cambridge opponents, and eventually ran out 3-1 winners. On a beautiful day and in glorious sunshine Fever goalie Gary Butler hardly had a save to make, but despite their dominance the away side found it difficult to convert chances into goals.

The breakthrough was made after 20 minutes, when Jon Matthews finished superbly after creating space for himself in the penalty area. But despite continuing to dominate there was no further scoring in the first half.

About ten minutes into the second period Alan doubled the Fever’s lead, but then an appalling managerial decision saw right-back Brodders substituted, with Matthews dropping back to cover. It wasn’t long before Jon Brown was shown the error of his ways as a looping cross/shot/hopeful punt drifted over Butler’s head to halve the deficit.

Butler had to be alert to make a decent save to prevent the scores from being levelled, and debut 15 year old Somali striker Kasim missed a couple of glorious chances to kill the game. Eventually Kasim did well to set up Gary Silver and the dreadlocked one made the game safe. He could have had another when put clean through by Kasim but Silver put the ball wide.
