Stags in the road

From the Rage Online newsdesk Thursday, September 11th, 2003

Mansfield are the latest side to try and stop the United steamroller in its tracks as they visit the KasStad this Saturday. They are assisted in their task by the unexpected suspension of Julian Alsop, who also misses Tuesday’s game at Cheltenham, for a transgression he committed while at Cheltenham. Apparently Jules was sent off (no surprise there), for which he served a ban, but he was later reported by the referee for foul and abusive language, to which the current punishment relates.

With Manny Omoyinmi now on loan to Margate, Jefferson Louis at Woking, and Lee Steele and Andy Scott still injured, Ian Atkins’ options up front are somewhat curtailed. Mark Rawle could make his first start for United alongside Steve Basham, or David Oldfield might be preferred for his ability to hold up the ball. Other options include the Rage On sponsored Chris Hackett, or possibly even just playing Basham up front on his own, although we suspect that won’t happen. At the back Jon Ashton will make his first start since signing permanently for United.

Mansfield have been scoring goals for fun again this season, although they’ve also a penchant for conceding loads. They are without prolific striker Iyseden Christie and midfielder Leroy Williamson but, like Oxford, are riding high on a wave of over-confidence. Bearing all this in mind the standard Rage Online prediction is 0-0. There has never been a goalless draw between the teams, so the law of averages is on our side.
