United remain unbeaten this season following their 1-1 draw against Scunthorpe at Glanford Park. Oxford took the lead just two minutes before half-time with a controversial penalty coolly converted by captain Andy Crosby. In the 63rd minute some good football by Peter Beagrie, who had earlier arguably been lucky to escape a second yellow card, earned the home side a point as his cross-shot beat Andy Woodman.

Ian Atkins made one change from the side that beat Hull last weekend, James Hunt replacing Danny Brown in midfield. Dean Whitehead came on for Derek Townsley just before the hour mark and Steve Basham made way for Andy Scott with ten minutes to go. With three minutes left player-coach David Oldfield replaced the tiring Julian Alsop.

Referee Michael Ryan had a good game, giving Oxford a dubious penalty and not showing any United players any cards. He should, perhaps, have dismissed Beagrie for a wild challenge on Paul Wanless, worthy of a second booking (the first following another reckless tackle on Hunt). The attendance was a low 3,617. We hope to have a match report tomorrow. A match report can be read here.

After three games United stay fifth in the table. Only two teams now have 100% records. Top of the league are United’s opponents on Monday, Swansea City, who beat Boston 3-0 yesterday. York are second after winning 1-0 at Huddersfield. Doncaster’s goalless draw at Lincoln sees them drop to third, while Bristol Rovers move up to fourth after winning 2-0 at Carlisle (both their goals being scored by Wayne Carlisle, aptly enough), to leave the Cumbrians second from bottom with no points. Torquay are sixth after being held 1-1 at Macclesfield and Yeovil have dropped to seventh after going down 2-0 at Leyton Orient.

Kidderminster lost 2-0 at home to Bury, while Cambridge were held to a 2-2 draw at Rochdale after being 2-0 up. Hull came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 at home to Cheltenham, and Mansfield thrashed Southend 3-0 at Roots Hall. Last night Northampton beat Darlington 1-0 to leave Darlo bottom of the league.

Sam Ricketts put Telford ahead in their 2-1 win at Gravesend, and Mark Stein scored both Dagenham’s goals in their 3-2 defeat at Morecambe. Marco Gabbiadini scored Hartlepool’s equaliser in their 1-1 draw at Bristol City.
