With little of any interest coming out of the hallowed halls of the KasStad recently there are a couple of non-stories to inform you about. Both involve players who have never been permanently on United’s books, but who have featured for the club, if briefly or non-competitively.
First is the news that Tommy Widdrington, who spent part of this Summer on trial at United, has joined Division Three rivals Macclesfield Town. Widdrington was at the top of Ian Atkins wish list for a while, until Paul Wanless became available, and he featured in pre-season friendlies against Tottenham, Coventry and Oxford City, against whom he scored, amongst others.
The other player who has joined a new club is former loanee striker Leon Mike, who came to Oxford from Manchester City. Mike made just one start for the Us, against Bristol City in a 1-0 home defeat in December 2000, and he also made two substitute appearances. He has now joined Mossley.
