Fevered brows

From the Rage Online newsdesk Saturday, August 16th, 2003

In the morning game Raging Fever met, shook hands with, and were then mashed by the Hull supporters. Things didn’t start off too badly, although Hull took the lead early, when a beautifully judged lob by Neil Wakefield levelled the scores.

Unfortunately the visitors were coping with the hot conditions somewhat better, having already got a game under their belts when they beat Darlo supporters last week. It wasn’t long before they restored and then extended their lead. Simon Eddy got another goal on his Raging Fever debut, but Hull scored again to make the half-time score 2-4.

It didn’t get any better in the second half. In fact it got considerably worse as the northerners superior fitness and lack of smoking and boozing started to tell. Fever were rocked by a shoulder injury to influential centre-half Paul Soper, but nonetheless Hull were just better, quicker and fitter than the Oxford wastrels. Despite further strikes from dreadlocked Gary Silver and another poachers goal for Wakefield, Fever were overwhelmed and the final score of 12-4 was probably a fair reflection of the game. We approach the away fixture with something akin to trepidation.
