United have been drawn at home to Reading in the second round of the Carling Cup. The game will take place on Wednesday 24th September at the Kassam Stadium (television permitting).
United have met the Biscuitmen on three previous occasions in the League Cup, all in the first round, with the Us victorious on the last two occasions (the last one back in 1990). We’ve also met in the FA Cup once, in 1983, with United winning after a replay, and in the Simod Cup, which Reading scraped through.
Last season Oxford beat local rivals swindon in the second round of the FA Cup, and United will be looking forward to adding the scalp of the other team in the Thames Valley triangle to the collection. It should prove to be another big crowd and, with no segregation now the North Stand is closed to home supporters, could well set a new ground record.
