United have signed Leicester City defender Jon Ashton on a one month loan deal, just in time for the start of the season. Ashton has played for the Foxes at Premiership level, and has recently been on loan to Notts County.
Ashton is 21 years old and can play at both right back and centre back. He is described as being “a bit raw, but with plenty of pace”, and also apparently possesses a long throw.
Former United midfielder Matt Murphy has meanwhile moved back to his Northamptonshire roots, signing on for Kettering Town. Last night he scored twice for the Poppies as they drew 3-3 with Leeds United, having been three goals ahead at one stage. Norman Sylla has been released from his recently signed contract at Havant & Waterlooville as the high-scoring French striker is deemed surplus to requirements following the signing of former Hereford striker Chucky Eribenne. And Johnny Lager has signed for Conference newcomers Accrington Stanley.
