Our intrepid reporter eventually returned from darkest Aldershot with the following partial and doubtless totally inaccurate synopsis:

Oxford were well in control throughout, with Andy Scott very busy and effective and Steve Basham quite busy but rather disappointing. The defence looked as strong as ever, despite the ineptness of the West Ham reject Izzy Iriekpin – sign him? No bloody thanks! He was taken off at halftime although I suspect Izzy didn’t have a tight hamstring but was told he was shite and to bugger off!

All in all a very comfortable and encouraging win, and absolutely no sign of hoofing it from the back. Honest! Manny, Louis and Fitzroy Simpson were all on the bench but never got a game. Others who didn’t play included Alsop, McCarthy, Powell and Wanless. And Joey. Nor Bob Ford.
