Chippy fished

United’s second string today beat Chipping Norton 2-0 in a competitive match at Walterbush Road. Oxford took a rather lucky lead when a rebound off Chippy goalie Jeremy Winter fell kindly for Billy Beeches, who slotted the ball into the empty net, and the scoring was completed with about fifteen minutes remaining after a good pass from Tom Winters set up Taurean O’Sullivan, who finished well. O’Sullivan had the ball in the net five minutes from time but the effort was disallowed for offside.

There were a lot of new faces amongst the United squad, which included Adam Van Dommele again at centre back. Others included goalkeeper Matthew Dixon, who had a nervy game but made a couple of good stops, Richard and James Tweed, and Jason Hwing on the hwing. Jamie Brooks also had a run out for the last five minutes and this time he actually touched the ball once.

The Chippy side, managed by former United winger Phil Heath, included one Mike Ford in central midfield. Fordy showed that he still has a captain’s organisational skills and can strike a good pass, but his loose fitting white shirt couldn’t hide the fact that he’s been on the pies recently, although he did have a bit of a run, once.
