There’s no doubting which of United’s illustrious captains Rage Online readers hold in the highest esteem. Malcolm Shotton’s disastrous spell as manager at United has not blemished our perceptions of him as skipper during the U’s Glory Years as Sheeney took 40% of the votes to walk away with the Best Ever Captain poll. A long way back in second place is United’s new Youth Team Coach, Mike Ford receiving 19%, just ahead of old gold boy Ron Atkinson (16%). In fourth place came Matty Elliott, who was only ever vice-captain to Fordy but who nevertheless gained 14% of the votes cast. United fans are still waiting for the decision as to who United’s next captain will be following the departure of Les Robinson (0%), with new boy Ian McGuckin favourite should Mark Watson fail to show.
